In 2001 Celesio opened pharmaceutical retail businesses in Dublin, Ireland. Soon, additional pharmacies were acquired or newly opened in Dublin and right around the country, increasing the number of Celesio pharmacies to 72.
In 2009 Celesio opened the first DocMorris pharmacy in Ireland. Two years later the Group began its rebranding of DocMorris, which continued up until 2012 when the company opened its 73rd store in Ballyfermot, Dublin. 2013 marked another exciting year with the opening of the first franchised pharmacy in Tullamore in July and the brand transformation from DocMorris to LloydsPharmacy in September.
Ireland has a population of 4.7 million people and a total of more than 1,800 community pharmacies, creating a ratio of 2,500 inhabitants to every store.
Pharmacy partnership network
As the largest pharmacy group in the country, LloydsPharmacy Ireland currently has 94 branches and employs nearly 1,000 people in the branches as well as in the support office in Cabinteely, Dublin. At present there are four franchised pharmacies in Tullamore, Westport, Galway and Ringsend. The independent pharmacies are provided support from a strong pharmacy brand and the opportunity to become part of Ireland’s leading pharmacy group while retaining their locally known, brand name.
