Celesio is ECOfit
ECOfit has been designed to encourage local businesses to implement measures for protecting the environment. Recently Celesio and GEHE Pharma Handel joined the one-year programme. With the supported of environment experts, the company data relevant for environmental issues will be analysed. According to the general administration manager at the Celesio head office, this is a very advantageous situation: “This will enable us to identify where the use of resources like water, energy and paper can be reduced.” Moreover waste management and internal processes are being examined to find room for further improvement.

The Celesio Corporate General Administration environmental team has again achieved "ECOfit" certification from the German state of Baden Württemberg and the city of Stuttgart. Certification was awarded on the basis of an analysis conducted by Celesio into weak points in environmental protection/energy efficiency as well as the wide range of improvements that have been implemented. All environment-related legal provisions as well as the requirements of the "ECOfit" programme were tested.
The workshops were carried out in more than 15 cities and country districts. With impressive results: 22 companies were able to reduce their costs by about 31,000 euro on average per year after the third project round, concluded on 21 September 2010. Moreover, the project initiated total energy cuts of approximately 4,800,000 kWh and a reduction in CO2 emissions of 2,400,000 kg.
As a healthy environment and healthy living go hand in hand, this project is being in line with Celesio’s motto: Committed to health.
ECOfit was created on the basis of EMAS [Eco- Management and Audit Scheme], which is a voluntary environment control system for organisations. EMAS was founded by the European Union in 1993.
