Already in 1835 the company's founder Franz Ludwig Gehe (1810-1882) was:
"open to the present, as a person widely and deeply immersed in observation, care and – what was at the time a modern word – ‘social action’. … This is how Gehe repeatedly characterized a great level of objectivity, as well as the aforementioned idea of serving the public good. It is still the era of social care without many words."
